The bodies of as many as 114,000 of the disappeared of the Spanish Civil War and the Franco dictatorship lie in anonymous mass graves, ditches, and ravines on the outskirts of towns and villages.
Lost Memoryreveals the sites of these graves that have yet to be uncovered and dignified. Many of these burial sites are concealed beneath new buildings or remain undiscovered. The author has identified and dated as closely as possible the exact day of the year and the hour when many of these people were murdered, mainly between sundown and just before dawn. The emptiness and silence that attended him when he visited these places confer on the surroundings a certain serenity, “but on closer reflection we realize that they are landscapes of sadness in which the echo of the final fatal shot still resounds” (Carlos del Amor, journalist)
