White Nile
This Argentine photographer specialises in the ethnography photo of remote regions around the world. This exhibition introduces a series on the life of the Mundari, nomadic herders along the Nile. These people live in South Sudan, the youngest country in the world yet also one of the poorest, which is involved in a terrible war.
Ana María Robles immerses us in the life of these remote people that revolves around the Ankole breed of cattle, which are sacred animals that are go-betweens for the Mundari and their gods. They are their livelihood. Their social status, and their marriage dowry depends on these cows.
This tribes survives with their ancient culture in transition, heading towards a more sedentary and Westernised lifestyle.
