In 1945, the I Concurs Nacional de Fotografia was organized, featuring as judges some of the prominent photographers of the time, such as José Ortiz Echagüe, Joaquim Pla Janini, Claudi Carbonell Flo, and as secretary, Josep M. Lladó Bausili.
In 1948, the first edition of the Concurs Ibèric de Fotografia began, which brought together photographers from Spain, Portugal, and Andorra.
In 1968, the contest was renamed the Iberian Photography Contest - Trofeu Pell - thanks to the sponsorship of the Igualada Tanker Guild, while three trophies were established : gold, silver , and bronze, similar to those at the Olympic Games.
In 2016, it became international by transitioning to a digital format .
