CHILDREN OF RAVAL
Fineartlogo

Joan Colom stated that he wanted to capture life and movement in the street. He concealed his camera around his waist or on his knee, and filmed from there. Without looking through the viewfinder, he surreptitiously managed to look into the very heart of Barcelona’s Barrio Chino, and without taboos capture the life of the local people. From sex workers to a host of other anonymous characters, such as these "children of Raval": barefooted, dirty, sad, often alone or abandoned... Bleak, honest images that hark back to a past time, yet at the same time speak to our present.
