IMAGES OF AN ERA

It was only two years since I had been bought a camera. I had finished my studies at the Theatre Institute, it was in 1954.

My photographic technique was intuitive: you could say nobody had taught me. I gathered information from here and there. The first important photographs I took were of the "Somorrostro" neighbourhood in Barcelona, at a time when going there was rather subversive and sometimes even dangerous. At that time I fitted my hobby in with my job at Radio Barcelona.

I liked theatre and I found there a way to express my passion. In the photographs and portraits, I was taking then, I worked very hard at the visual composition. This work fascinated me, and I threw myself into it. So, I see the decade from 56 to 66 as my most authentic and have memories of it that will never leave me.
